The term machine safety guard is to be understood in two senses: firstly, the focus is on the integrity of people by ensuring minimum distances to potentially dangerous elements with machine guards, as regulated in the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EG. This prescribes a separating protective device. Secondly, it is also important to secure the machine itself with protective fences and protective grilles in order to ensure a long lasting service life.
Further bases for this are regulations such as safety distances according to DIN EN ISO 13857 and minimum distances according to DIN EN 349.
